Joy with no strings
You left
I’m more naked now
Chewing my lip
Trying
Stay my thoughts
Still my breath
Reading clouds
Looking
Faces in trees
Blood flows
Wounds fester
I laugh
The pain is so familiar
It clothes
Surrounds
What direction
Where to go
Circles
Through green fields
Waiting for fireflies
For company
Caresses
Wishing
Real warmth
Only finding illusions
But I know the tricks
Behind masks
Alone
Truth pricks the soul beneath
Aches
Keeping us rooted now.
Confusion Abounds
Shocked, almost numb
I heard the words in disbelief
The sun warmed the air around me
But I was shaking with the cold
Hurrying through my steps
Each move I had to make
Whether or not I wanted to walk
Or just curl up in a ball
Each word sliced through me
It sounded all a jumble
Making no sense
But somehow telling a tale
Time moved to and fro
But not in any order I could see
I was sinking beneath the waves
Of memory and pain and dreams
Confusion abounds
Just as it did then
Where do I go from here
How do I plan accordingly
Absurdity is Free
When dreams fall flat on their faces
When the pain is too much to bear
How do you make pleasantries
Or any sense of the absurd
Main street is a freak show
The office is the midway
Everyone performs their roles
But you want to run away
Your eyes see faces that aren’t there
You hear songs carried on the breeze
Feel your feet connect with the earth
You run but never are free
