Like it or not

taking words from me
twisting
until they bend no further
they’re lifeless things
but I’m holding them dear
lest they dissipate
so many seasons
just watching and waiting
now I know it’s not too late
even if today is the last
even if you try to erase me
my soul has been unlocked
and there’s no stopping
the flood of thoughts
I’m going to share
some are beautiful
you’ll like those
some are truly hideous
you’ll want to run
and warn others
to stay away
it doesn’t matter
I’m not writing for them
or for you

Tendrils

The taste is different today
Colors a different taint
When I crawled out of bed on the wrong side
I didn’t know how much I’d miss you

Struggling with an idea
Trying to put down words
Sometimes you have to walk away
But there’s a line I like so I must stay

There’s a shadow of an idea
Lurking about
So with bated breath and furtive glances
I reach and grasp a tendril from the ether

Plugging Away

Escher_Relativity_1953
sitting nameless in the maze
waiting for someone to find me
plugging into the system
looking for connectivity

drones tapping away
flashes pass me by
is this my life now
figures grab my eye

maintain
status
retina
overload

my taste buds screaming for more
something real not imitation
flavors exploding on my tongue
do you need an invitation

there is no shutting down
just click restart
no escape except the button
I can draw you up a chart

touch
swipe
error
crash

Burning

Burning so damn much
it’s hard to write
What sweet words
can I give as a token
What I feel sure as hell isn’t affection
but a burning
so deep within
I try to claw it out
Only I succeed
not at easing the ache
but in yearning more for you
Should I beg
try to steal
a moment of your time
Relief’s not in my grasp
without you
Believe me
I tried
and was burned

the game

found myself on queue
awaiting my turn
to my right was a tramp
to my left a pirate
how would we fare
in competition
I can be ruthless and play dirty
or I can be selfless and lend a hand
but something tells me
I need to bring my A game
the Indian sits sagely on the side
the opera diva chomping at the bit
I’ll wait a bit
gauge the skill of my opponents

wait

there’s nobody against me
in front of us are our mirror images
we have to find our own weak spots
exploit them to get ahead
no moving forward
without sacrificing something
our pride, our cynicism
would be the first to go
but we’re not all that smart
the strategy is not clear
just keep moving is key
don’t over-think
use instincts we’ve so long suppressed
play the game
