Tucked Away

darkroom
I was kept carefully tucked away
He said it was like a fine wine to be savored
I felt it was more the embarrassing condition he had to hide

Waiting in the dark was not so terrible
When I knew the light washing over me would be glorious
It was enough to keep going

For awhile

Light and dark don’t like to keep apart for long
They spill into each other
Exposing all secrets

When people could see
All would be empty
Colorless

Fleeting

So each night was taken and drained
Every drop accounted for
And I was kept tucked away
